Founded in 1980, NDT Technologies' original business goal was to develop instrumentation for the electromagnetic (EM) inspection of wire ropes, to manufacture and market this instrumentation, and, based on this instrumentation, to develop a wire rope inspection business.
Most of these goals were achieved. We developed advanced methods for the nondestructive EM in-service inspection of wire ropes. Part of this research was supported by the U.S. Navy, Office of Naval Research.
We are the only manufacturer of wire rope inspection equipment in the United States, with a complete line of EM wire rope inspection equipment for ropes up to 4.5 inch (113 mm) diameter. Based on the excellent performance of our instruments, we occupy a strong position, worldwide, in this niche market. We are primarily an instrument manufacturer with a very small wire rope inspection service business.
Our rope testers are used for applications such as the inspection of mine hoist ropes, aerial tramways, ski lifts, elevator ropes, crane and diving bell ropes, Syncrolift TM ropes, mooring ropes for offshore oil platforms, marine cables and many other applications.
Among others, this instrumentation has been sold to the following notable customers: U.S. Navy, U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, U.S. Mine Safety and Health Administration, U.S. Bureau of Mines, British Navy, Australian Navy, Egyptian Navy, Cyprus Climax Mining, CANMET (Canada Centre for Mineral and Energy Technology, Mining Research Laboratories), the Londonderry Occupational Safety Centre (Australia), British Coal, British Gas, Petrobras (Brazil), Anglo-American Corporation Ltd. (South Africa), UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Organization, Vienna, Austria), and Walt Disney Imagineering.
In addition, wire rope testers have been sold to numerous customers domestically and in foreign countries like Canada, United Kingdom, Australia, Spain, Japan, France, Finland, China, Italy, Argentina, Brazil, Zimbabwe, Korea, Indonesia, Mexico, Ghana, Egypt, Peru and Venezuela.
